CORE FRENCH

REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH CORE FRENCH BACKGROUND
The Contest is  designed for non-francophone students who have followed the regular curriculum in elementary and secondary schools and who have not had any special opportunities to learn French, e.g. extensive travel in French-speaking countries or more than one summer course in French.

STUDENTS MUST:
1. be enrolled in either a City of Toronto, or Peel, Durham or York Region secondary school both during the year of the contest and the year preceding it; 2. be enrolled in or have completed a Grade 12 in French as part of a secondary school program; 3. not be a member of a French-speaking family; 4. not have lived or studied in a French-speaking environment within the last ten years (one summer course or an exchange or immersion experience for a maximum of six weeks excepted); 5. be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; 6. not have been a prize winner in a previous York University or University of Toronto French Contest. However, non-winning candidates are eligible to participate again.

SCHOOLS MUST:
Submit with the completed application, a student fee in the amount of $40; the reverse side of the cheque must bear the candidate's name and must not be stapled to the application.

Please submit a separate cheque for each candidate.

CORE FRENCH PLUS

REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH CORE FRENCH PLUS BACKGROUND
This contest has been designed for non-Francophone students who have followed the CORE AND/OR IMMERSION programs at the elementary school level.

STUDENTS MAY:
1. have had Early, Middle, or Late Immersion or Extended experience, but not beyond grade eight; 2. have participated in French student exchange programs, summer courses and camps while at the secondary school level, but not exceeding three months in total; 3. have lived in a French milieu for up to a year, but only before grade nine; 4. have attended a French first language school for up to a year before grade nine or for more than one year, but not beyond grade four.

STUDENTS MUST: 1. be enrolled in a City of Toronto or a Peel, Durham, or York Region secondary school both during the year of the contest and the year preceding it; 2. be enrolled in or have completed a Grade 12 in French as part of a secondary school program; 3. not be a member of a French-speaking family; 4. be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; 5. not have been a prize winner in a previous York University or University of Toronto French Contest. EXTENDED / IMMERSION

REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH EXTENDED/IMMERSION BACKGROUND
This contest has been designed for non-Francophone students who have been enrolled in EXTENDED OR IMMERSION programs at the elementary and secondary school level.

STUDENTS MAY:
1. have participated in French student exchange programs, summer courses and camps while at the secondary school level, but not exceeding six months in total; 2. have lived in a French milieu for up to one year; 3. have attended a French first language school for up to a year BEFORE grade 10, or for more than one year but NOT BEYOND grade four.

STUDENTS MUST: 1. be enrolled in a City of Toronto or a Peel, York, or Durham region secondary school both during the year of the contest and the year preceding it; 2. be enrolled in or have completed a Grade 12 in either Core French or French Extended/Immersion as part of a secondary school program; 3. not be a member of a French-speaking family; 4. be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; 5. not have been a prize winner in a previous York University or University of  Toronto French Contest. However, non-winning candidates are eligible to participate again.
