Baby, when you're gone

I have moved my blog!
As I am currently staying in Brazil (just for the summer), I have decided to create a new blog to better organize everything....if you are interested to read on my travels, please visit http://rita.nomadlife.org

Another reason why watching the OC is a waste of time: so I was randomly browsing myspace.com the other day and by chance I stumbled upon the myspace personal page of Seth Cohen (i.e. one of the male leads in the infamously famous show The O.C. in North America). So apparently the guy who starred as Seth Cohen has started a page for himself (or should I say the character?) on myspace. There is currently more than 13000 members who are actively browsing the page and leaving comments on it on a daily basis. Now, I don't watch the OC nor care about what is currently happening, but it seems like the guy who is playing Seth (Adam Brody) created a myspace page for this particular character. According to one entry he now has to "sift through 2000+ messages and has 6000 people who are pending his approval to be his friend".

When an actor has the level of intelligence to create a webpage for a TV character and writes with bad grammar, it's a sign that TV is indeed shit for your brain. Unless he's trying to be very, very clever and make fun of the whole beauty-without-brains thing, something that seems to evade the entire OC cast. Which I really, really doubt.

Any ideas anyone?

Trying to plan your time strategically is not as difficult as you think- i think the more diffcult thing is whether or not things will work out your way. And I daresay that a good 70% of the time it won't, something else will come into play and you'll change your plans one way or another.

I've been doing an awful lot of thinking lately, about what I should do in life as a student, as an AIESECer, and to correlate all this stuff with my lifelong dreams, such as going to France for an exchange, travelling with my family and all. These might all sound like minor things compared to those who have a glamourous life, but again it's a lot of tougher to get things sorted out than you think.

While completing my bachelor degree is a top priority, there are times that I value my AIESEC experience more and would wonder what I would do if given an excellent opportunity in this particular international plaform. Would I give up school temporarily and do it and then come back? Would I say no and try to go on pursuing my dream of getting a PhD - in which you can't really delay your academic career- and say no to AIESEC? I don't know. I think right now this is definitely one of the major obstacles that I am facing in my life right now.

And it's kind of scary to think that god knows what might happen tomorrow, and you can't plan each and every detail out...

So I came back from a weekend in eastern Ontario and it was mighty fun. Went to Ruby's art gig/art festival and it was super. This one performance in the festival just blew my mind away - I was unimpressed with some of the other performers but loved what Rubes did. Anyhoo then I was off to Dave's house party- mighty fun, I think I was the only Asian anglophone who was there and a bit of a offlandish bystander as many people tried to practice their English with me and kind of treated me as "that English-speaking Asian". But they were all pretty nice, there wasn't any racist comments or gestures to exclude me. I guess alcohol helped as I also talked to one person, Francis, completement en francais sans etre interrompe and it was cool. There was also a girl who had a delightful British accent with her English but was often offended when I tell her that t'as un accent anglais, to which she would reply "fuck you" (in a joking manner). She was a good time.

So I didn't work as hard as I should have during the weekend as I was in Ottawa/Gatineau for a Jumelage project with Uniterra UQO. However I was really impressed by Medhi and his crew at UQO- I do wish that they were my WUSC local committee instead! And too bad Medhi is not in AIESEC- his vision, his ideas and approach are highly motivating and I know that if he was an AIESECer, he can probably be MCP any day.

As of the moment I am just taking it easy and trying to finish up my last and final work project with the University of Toronto Art Centre. I am responsible for one of their quarterly e-newsletter, A.Centric, and I am already a weekend behind. Hopefully next year I can return to this job again as I really enjoyed it, and it has been a lot of fun in taking an editorial position and being able to be involved in part of the design for the layout.

Next up: my CEED project; I am crossing my fingers that the visa process for Brazil will work out fine as right now I am facing a couple of problems with my Canadian passport's expiry date and a couple other timeline/logistics issues...

After taking up salsa lessons in January I have officially become an avid salsa dancer...mind you I am not a great dancer but I've been told that I'm really good at doing "tight turns" and have good reflexes. I guess that's a great thing, and it's always good to meet cute guys when I'm in the TSP practices on Saturdays.

On that note that is why I decided to get a haircut- when I am in salsa practices/lessons my hair is always flipping in my face and it's really annoying - especially when you are doing a fast song and you are dancing with a good dancer. Luckily most of the guys that I've danced with at TSP are really nice people and didn't seem to mind too much that I would step on their feet once in a while.

Anyway, my point is that I got my haircut today- I asked for a bob, and a bob cut I got. I think it's a pretty fun 'do - too bad I don't have the Natalie Portman-esque profile to go with it.

On another note, March looks like a real busy month for me! This weekend I'll be participating in AIESEC Canada's Cultural Intergation Learning seminar with CIDA. And then next weekend I'm off to Ottawa/Montreal for a project with WUSC/Uniterra!! Yay for travelling!!
