SUPREME COURT NOMINEE INVOLVED WITH QUESTIONABLE E&Y TAX
SHELTER[OCT12]
An U.S Senate investigation has found that U.S Supreme Court
Nominee, Harriet Miers, had helped E&Y sell tax shelters
which were later found to be abusive. The incident occurred
back in 1999, when Harriet Miers was the head of the law
firm, Locke, Liddell & Sapp. E&Y later settled the tax
shelter issue with the IRS in 2003 by paying a fine of $15
million.

KPMG, SIDLEY AUSTIN BROWN & WOOD TO SETTLE WITH TAX SHELTER
CLIENTS
[OCT4]
In further development of the KPMG tax shelter case, the
firm along with the law firm Sidley, Austin Brown & Wood LLP
has agreed to settle with its former clients for tax
shelters for a sum of $ 225 million. KPMG has admitted
criminal wrongdoing in relation to the selling of the tax
shelters in question in August to avoid a criminal
prosecution by U.S federal prosecutors.
