The experiential learning programs in French organized by the Department of French have enabled University of Toronto Arts and Science students enrolled in Specialist, Major and Minor programs in French language to integrate their French language skills and their academic learning in various fields and thus become better prepared for the growing demand for bilingual and multilingual graduates in a wide range of professions in Canada and abroad.

The goals and objectives of our experiential programs are closely aligned with the goals of the recent French Language Curriculum Renewal in the Department of French and aim to:

a) develop linguistic competence through experiential learning in French, particularly for those students who are considering a teaching career in French;
b) broaden undergraduate student experience in order to better understand the various aspects of learning French as a second or third language such as varieties of French, cultural diversity, contributions of underrepresented Francophone groups;
c) develop students’ ability for self-guided and independent activities in French;
d) prepare students for the workforce with experiential learning programs designed to accommodate the widest possible range of previous learning, special needs, and particular interests of students.
