What is Hear and Say WorldWide?

Hear and Say WorldWide is the global professional training arm of the Hear and Say Centre, Queensland, Australia. Hear and Say WorldWide offers courses in the Auditory-Verbal Approach to parents, community members, health professionals, Teachers of the Deaf, Teachers, students and more.

What is Auditory-Verbal Therapy?

  • Facilitation of optimal acquisition of spoken language through listening for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Promotes early diagnosis, one-on-one therapy and state-of-the-art audiological management and technology.
  • Parents and caregivers become the primary facilitators of their child’s spoken language development.
  • Ultimately, parents and caregivers gain confidence that their child can have access to a full range of academic, social and occupational choices throughout life.

What is Auditory-Verbal Education?

  • An Auditory-Verbal Educator teaches children with hearing loss to listen and speak clearly exclusively through listening and spoken language instruction.
  • Auditory-Verbal Education focuses on teaching listening and clear spoken language to prepare children for entry in mainstream education.
  • Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certification in Auditory-Verbal Education is guided by the Ten Principles of Auditory-Verbal Education.

What are the benefits of this training program?

  • Course participants gain the necessary knowledge and practical skills required to develop spoken language through audition for children with hearing loss in a variety of educational settings.
  • Provides a point of entry and specialised re-training to encompass new fields of expertise associated with current hearing technology and spoken language acquisition.

What course am I best suited for?

Preliminary- is best suited for parents of children with hearing loss, clinical and education professionals, community members and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Elementary- is best suited for clinical and education professionals (i.e., Audiologists, Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf or other suitable professionals with a university degree) and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Intermediate- is best suited for professionals who require in-depth knowledge of the Auditory-Verbal Approach, current hearing technology and clinical and education professionals with existing qualifications (i.e., Audiologists, Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf or Teacher).
Advanced- is best suited for professionals who require advanced skills in research, neuroscience, genetics and mentoring, and clinical and education professionals with existing qualifications (i.e., Audiologists, Speech Pathologists, Teachers of the Deaf, Teachers or individuals who have reached an appropriate level of knowledge of the Auditory-Verbal Approach).

Are there pre-requisite courses that need to be completed?

Preliminary- No existing qualifications are required for the Preliminary course.
Elementary- No existing qualifications are required for the Elementary course. This course can serve as a pre-requisite for the Intermediate course.
Intermediate- Completion of the Elementary course or proof of adequate learning is required for the Intermediate course. This course can serve as a pre-requisite for the Advanced course.
Advanced- Completion of the Elementary and Intermediate courses or proof of adequate learning is required for the Advanced course.
