EVEN MORE PARIS

The famous stained glass of the Sainte-Chapelle church, widely regarded as the finest Medieval stained glass in the world.  And holy cow, there's a lot of it in there.  The photo is actually shown sideways, but I like the unconventional angle.

A close-up of Sacre-Coeur.  Early Parisians hated it and, even now, some contemporary Parisians think it's hideous.  I actually agree: its dorky faux-Byzantine design is a bit embarrassing in a city full of exquisite original architecture.  But its pale white stone catches the setting sun beautifully.

The lovely (and limitless) royal gardens of Versailles.  They just roll on and on and on, as far as the eye can see!

Pigeons relaxing with some cherubs on a statue outside the old Paris Opera House, l'Opéra Garnier.  I did a project on the Opera House in Extended French class in grade 9, so I have a special affinity with this building, and took lots of pictures.

I know I already showed a smaller version of this image, but here's a screen-size one: the chandelier in l'Opéra Garnier's auditorium.  In Gaston Leroux's "The Phantom of the Opera," this is what fell on the audience.  The ceiling fresco is relatively new, though; it was done in 1969 by the one-and-only Marc Chagall.

Again, a photo that was previewed earlier, but you only get its effect in high resolution.  This is one of the two candelabras that flank the grand marble staircase.  Actually, the word "candelabra" doesn't cut it; they're actually elaborate statues of several women holding up a staggering bouquet of candles.  The entire interior of the building is one of the most wondrously over-the-top and ornate things I've ever seen (check out one of the lobbies here).
