There are many intricacies in the ergonomics and usability communities. Consultants tend not to work with colleagues, and yet there is a massive co-operative effort to standardize practices and share findings. Even more contradictory to their singular nature, is their rich social skills... conducting analyses with strangers isn't for the shy.
So how do these seemingly disconnected professionals form a social community? Aside from collaborating, both communities have their respective conferences, forums, organizations, interest groups and memberships.
